All of the surveys I've created have "anonymous" as the e-mail address of the respondents.  But I need to create a survey where I can look at the results and follow up with respondents. Can I capture the respondent's e-mail from the user settings or do I have to add a field where they put it in themselves?

Hello,
Different options are available:
a.
- create SP useraccounts (menu: accounts/ userlist/ ....) including an emailaddress for every respondent;
- add the Repondents role to the user (menu edit user)
- add the survey to the user (menu edit user)
- Next the user logs in to the SP tool and answers/submits the survey (menu take survey)
- user details are all logged and all available including email
b.
- add the email code protection security add in to the survey (menu Security/ form security/ email code add in.)
- next invite respondents by sending an invitation mailing (menu campaigns/ mailing)
- when the survey is answered the email address is logged
- also the mailing status can be followed (menu campaigns/ mailing status)

Hello.  I'm a long time user but am having trouble with the email security add in.  Like the original post, I want to track surveys by email address.

However, when I follow the "B" instructions mentioned above, the email address is not logged.  When I export data, the email column is blank where it should contain the email of the respondent.  Is there an additional step not mentioned to allow for logging of the email address?

Hello,

Only step not mentioned explicitly at b. is the checkbox "only invited emails can participate" It is checked by (default) when adding the email code protection security add in. To have emails registered properly it should be " unchecked".

This is counterintuitive. An issue will be added at Github to make this more userfriendly.

Next when sending invitations, dont set it to "anonymous entries".

After sending the invitation you can follow the voter/ mailer through the Mailing Status menu. When the invited repondent has submitted the survey it will appear in the Validated emails answers list. From there you can click the details button to the voterreport. Where the email address is also shown along with the other user details.

This should work correctly (SP v. 2.3).

Following your remark on the data export I can confirm that there seems to be a bug causing the emailaddress/ username not to be exported to the csv file. When using the XML export is does export the email correctly.

An issue will be registered at the Github SP site to look into this and possibly fix it for the next (SP 2.4) release. Thanks for reporting and I hope you manage to get the emailing working correctly.
